The three main ways to get a figurine of your pet
1. Hand-sculpted
An artist sculpts your pet by hand, usually in polymer clay, needle-felted wool or resin, working from your photos.
- Price: generally the most expensive option, often several hundred dollars for a detailed piece, depending on the artist's reputation and the size.
- Wait time: usually the longest. Popular artists often have waiting lists.
- Likeness: can be excellent, and depends entirely on the artist's skill and your photos.
- Durability: varies with the material. Clay and felt pieces are best kept on a shelf.
- Best for: people who want a true art piece and value the human hand above all.
2. 3D printed
A 3D model of your pet is created (by a 3D artist, software, or both), then printed. There are two common families:
- Full-colour resin or powder printing: fine details and smooth colour gradients, usually at a higher price, and some materials are more fragile.
- Multi-colour filament printing (such as PLA): sturdy and more affordable, with a limited number of colours, so markings are simplified. Fine layer lines may be visible up close.
- Wait time: usually shorter than hand sculpting, since printing is automated once the model is ready.
- Best for: gifts, collectibles and anyone who wants a recognizable, durable figurine at a reasonable price.
3. "AI figurines"
Tools like ChatGPT or Gemini can make an image that looks like a figurine of your pet in seconds. That's fun, but it's a picture, not something you can print as-is. Some services also generate 3D models with AI automatically.
- Price: an AI image is free or nearly free; physical products vary widely.
- Wait time: the image is instant; a physical object still has to be modelled and printed.
- Likeness: AI can drift: wrong markings, extra details, a different ear shape. Without a human checking the model, these errors end up in the final object.
- Best for: trying out a style before ordering a real figurine.

| Typical price | Highest | Moderate | Image free; object varies |
| Typical wait | Longest | Moderate | Image instant |
| Likeness | Depends on the artist | Good from clear photos; stylized with few colours | Unpredictable without a human check |

| Best for | Art pieces | Gifts and keepsakes | Previewing a style |
What it costs in Canada (prices checked in October 2026)
To put numbers on "highest" and "moderate": a 3D-printed colour figurine typically costs about $50 to $210 CAD, a hand-modelled piece from an independent artist about $75 to $220 CAD, and a plush replica about $340 to $360 CAD, before shipping and possible border fees when the seller ships from abroad. These ranges come from prices read on sellers' websites on October 6 and 7, 2026. Details and sources: how much a custom pet figurine costs in Canada.
How to choose
- Is it for a memorial? Choose a maker who shows you a preview before producing anything.
- Is it a gift with a date? Check current timelines with the maker; custom work takes longer than you think.
- Do you want realism or character? A realistic replica and a stylized chibi are different products; neither is "better".
- Do you have good photos? Every method depends on them. A sharp, well-lit photo of the face from the front matters most.
- What's the refund policy? Custom pieces are often non-refundable once made. Ask first.
Where Chibiyo fits
Chibiyo makes stylized chibi figurines, not realistic replicas. AI helps us draw the chibi version and build the 3D model. A person checks every model, and you approve the preview before printing. Each figurine is about 8 to 10 cm, 3D printed in PLA in up to four colours in Québec, and comes in a gift box with your pet's name.
- Honest limits: with up to four colours, complex coats are simplified, and the result is a stylized interpretation, not a perfect copy.
- Protection: full refund as long as printing hasn't started.
- Price and shipping: $79 CAD, shipping included (founders' price for the first 100 figurines; regular price after that: $89 CAD). We ship within Canada only for now, with tracking.
- Status: Chibiyo is in pre-launch. You can join the waitlist on our home page.

FAQ
Which is more durable, a 3D-printed or a hand-sculpted figurine?
It depends on the material. Filament-printed figurines like PLA are generally sturdy for display; clay, felt and some resins are more delicate. None of them are toys for pets to chew.
Can I print the AI figurine image I made with ChatGPT?
Not directly. An image has no hidden back or depth. It has to be turned into a 3D model first, ideally checked by a person.
Will a 3D-printed figurine look exactly like my pet?
No method guarantees a perfect copy. Clear photos and a preview you approve are the best ways to get a result you're happy with.
Why are some custom figurines so much more expensive?
Hand sculpting takes many hours of an artist's time. 3D printing automates part of the work, which lowers the cost.
How many photos do I need?
For Chibiyo, one sharp photo of the face is the minimum; more angles help. See our FAQ.
